Discovering His Gift
Discovering His Gift
After my Baptism in 2016, my wife and I continued to serve at the RCIA ministry as sponsors and facilitators at SPP. As part of the annual RCIA program to celebrate Christmas, the facilitators organized a nativity pageant play at the Carmelite Monastery for the cloistered Carmelite sisters. Both of us helped with designing and creating the backdrop for the play. It was from there that the sisters asked both of us to help design and set up the Christmas Nativity scene in the chapel in the following years of 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2023.
In early 2019, Sr. Linda asked me to repair a small angel from an old nativity set. The little 3-inch angel had a missing foot and a broken wing, which I repaired using polymer clay. This ignited my interest in sculpture, and so began my journey of discovering His gift.
Having no formal training in this art form, I learned from books and videos. My first attempt at an air-dry clay sculpture resulted in a piece I named “Ascension,” inspired by scriptures on the feast day of the Ascension of the Lord.
